On October 30, Madrid will become the world capital of architecture thanks to the Architecture Madrid Awards (AMA). The Official College of Architects of Madrid (COAM) will host the first edition of these awards, which land in the capital to become the Goya of architecture and design, recognizing and rewarding international talent. The Community of Madrid will be positioned as the focus of design worldwide.

The call to apply as a candidate in any of the categories is already available on the official website of the awards, where you can also find the competition rules stipulated by the organization. They reflect the different requirements that the projects submitted must meet depending on the modality for which they wish to apply.

As already announced last year, the jury will be composed of a large group of architects of national and international prestige. Thus, the already announced Carlos Lamela, Tristán López-Chicheri, Carlos Rubio Carvajal, Lázaro Rosa-Violán and Paloma Sobrini, will be joined by Sara Folch, César Vidal, Eva Cuesta, Javier Pioz and José Antonio Granero. An unprecedented group of professionals in the field of architecture, capable of combining the talent, rigor and experience that an occasion like this deserves.

More than thirty categories

The more than 30 trophies that will be awarded, designed by the ECOcero brand, are divided by subsectors and can be accessed by any finished project in Spain and signed by those studies of architecture and interior design that do not have more than 15 years of existence, thus being able to enhance and provide visibility. These are the awards that will be deliberated by the aforementioned jury.

Apart from the jury, the organization will also award different prizes in categories such as Hotel Architecture; Cultural and Sports Architecture; Commercial Architecture; Office Building; Residential Architecture; Rehabilitation; Industrialized Houses; Sanitary Architecture; Urban Planning, among others.

In addition, an honorary award will be presented to an established architect, as well as other awards aimed at individual designers and brands or companies, encouraging innovative design paths in the pursuit of excellence in architecture.

International talents will also be awarded by CEYDA and MWCC, to continue positioning Madrid as the world capital of design and architecture.

Background

On July 28, 2023, the presentation of the AMA took place. Zhao Kai, president of China Europe International Design Association (CEIDA) and David García Núñez, president of Madrid World Capital (MWCC), two of the entities promoting the event, were present.

The first of these, with more than 500,000 associated international architecture firms, aims to establish a network of collaboration between architecture and urban design professionals from different countries. In addition, its goal is to honor those established and emerging national and international projects that are led by junior studios. On the other hand, MWCC is an entity promoted by the City Council of Madrid and the Community of Madrid that, as of today, accumulates more than 186 public and private companies. FEARLESS Magazine is media partner of this first edition, given its presence in the architecture, design and lifestyle sector.

From the different entities encourage studios, architects, product companies, etc. to upload their projects and not to avoid an event that, after passing through Milan, Paris, Los Angeles or Beijing, comes to Madrid to stay, aspiring to become the Goya of architecture.
