MWCC participa y apoya la Semana Internacional de la Arquitectura del COAM
MWCC participates and supports COAM's International Architecture Week. The dean of the Official College of Architects of Madrid and president of the COAM Architecture Foundation, and the mayor of Madrid, accompanied by the ambassador of Peru in Spain; the secretary general of Urban Agenda, Housing and Architecture of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda; and the minister of Housing, Transport and Infrastructures of the Community of Madrid, inaugurated the International Architecture Week 2024, which has Peru and Lima as guest country and city in its XXI edition.
The main objective of this initiative is to bring architecture closer to society and highlight the value of architectural heritage, in addition to turning the city of Madrid into the capital of architecture for a few days.
In this edition, the architects of Madrid wanted to focus on the rich architectural and artistic heritage of Peru and Lima, establishing a dialogue with an ancient culture through a series of activities to explore the common roots of both built heritages and the urbanistic similarities between the two capitals.
More than 300 activities have been designed, including exhibitions, workshops, conferences, visits to buildings, themed itineraries, concerts, children's activities and even a design market.
Three are the exhibitions on which the program of the International Week pivots: Le fil rouge. Renzo Piano Building Workshop, which proposes a journey through the work of Renzo Piano and his studio RPBW through a selection of projects of different nature, scale and intended use; Lima húmeda. Metropolitan landscapes through cycles, spaces and inhabitants, on the history of the urbanization of the Peruvian capital from the water; and the urban exhibition located in the Parque de El Retiro Antonio Palacios Ramilo, his architecture in the city, a tribute to the 150th anniversary of the birth of the Galician architect, as part of the commemorative events celebrated by the Madrid City Council.
The International Architecture Week is an initiative of the COAM and the COAM Architecture Foundation held during the first week of October to bring architecture closer to society and highlight the value of architectural heritage. Its origin dates back to 1997, when the International Union of Architects (UIA) instituted the first Monday of October as World Architecture Day to coincide with World Habitat Day, established in turn by the UN General Assembly 12 years earlier, to encourage reflection on the state of our environments and cities.
This XXI edition has the collaboration of the Ibercaja Foundation, Casa de la Arquitectura, Cosentino, Madrid Nuevo Norte, Roca, Fundación ONCE, HNA, Asemas and Baumit.
