Madrid City Council and MWCC sign a collaboration protocol with the office for the new PGOUM (General Urban Development Plan of Madrid)
MWCC and the Madrid City Council have signed a collaboration protocol, in which the more than 187 companies that form part of MWCC will be able to contribute their projects to the drafting of the new text that will define the future urban planning of the city. MWCC, as a participating entity and representative of the economic and social life of the city and region of Madrid.
The Office is promoted by Madrid City Council and supported by the Community of Madrid. In this office, the City Council aims to design the Madrid that the next generations need in a space that combines the energy and potential of today’s Madrid, its consolidation and progress towards an even better territory, also guaranteeing legal certainty in urban planning, respecting the quality of life of citizens and attracting investment and employment.
The PGOUM Office will start with the development of a diagnosis of the situation. Madrid is at the best moment in its history. Far from being satisfied, it wants to consolidate its position among the most advanced cities in the world. At this point, all interested sectors and citizens will be involved. The analysis and information gathered will underpin the pillars that will give life to the new general plan.
“I am convinced that the collaboration of the neighbours and the projects of the companies will make it possible to create a great General Plan. The neighbours contribute the day-to-day social reality, while the companies contribute the latest developments in the sector to be applied in the city”, said García Núñez.
MWCC is an association promoted by Madrid City Council that brings together a business ecosystem with entities from the fields of engineering, construction and architecture, as well as universities, investment funds and Ibex 35 listed companies. The threefold objective of this consortium is to position Madrid as an international benchmark in urban solutions, to turn the capital into a focus of international attraction and to position the Madrid brand as a benchmark for innovation, sustainability and responsibility.
“Madrid World Capital is the hinge between entities and public administration. Private companies present innovation and sustainability projects that can be applied in the city of Madrid and we pass them on to the City Council. Our aim is to provide the best proposals for the new PGOUM”, explained García Núñez.
Together with the Community of Madrid, MWCC has created Innovation Lab, an innovation laboratory that is “unique in Europe and has already become a benchmark”, according to its president. “In this space, companies present their innovation projects and these are shown to the different developments in Madrid, mainly Valdecarros and Madrid Nuevo Norte,” he explains.
After the signing of the agreement between the City Council and MWCC, the consortium will begin to inform its entities about the new PGOUM to involve them, although García Núñez has already pointed out some of the projects they are working on in Innovation Lab that could be applied in Madrid: “We are developing decarbonised steel and concrete, pavements that absorb pollutants from the air and energy efficiency systems in urban infrastructures that reduce consumption by 70%”.
