MWCC, Voi Technology and the Metropoli Foundation have presented the report “Cities made to Live” that includes different visions of transformation of European cities to make them friendlier, walkable, sustainable and ideal places for people.

The opening and welcome message to the state by David García Nuñez, president of MWCC, who highlighted the great work that is being carried out in Madrid to promote the city towards a more sustainable future and turning it into a pole of attraction investment and innovation.

The presentation of the report “Cities made to Live” has been in charge of Alvaro Rodríguez, Director of Public Affairs for Spain of Voi Technology, the leading company in Europe in shared micromobility. Rodríguez has raised the need to rethink cities from a long-term vision, imagining the ideal city in which people would like to live, and based on that vision, decide backwards on the changes that must be carried out. In general, they are greener cities, in which mobility is carried out mainly by public transport, on foot or by bicycle and scooter, in which the streets are meeting points, places of play and in which the private car has lost its preeminence. The report includes the Voi Sustainability Report and has been prepared in collaboration with the prestigious office of Jaja Architects.

After the presentation of the report, a round table was held with the participation of Alfonso Vegara, president of the Metrópoli Foundation, Mª Dolores Ortiz, general director of Mobility Infrastructures of the Madrid City Council, Mª Teresa Rozas, head of the Department of Projects of Transport Engineering of the EMT and Noemí Moya, regional director of Public Affairs for southern Europe of Voi Technology. The table, with the title “Madrid, A city to live it” has allowed projects already executed such as Madrid Río, Bicimad and others in which they will be executed soon, such as the development of Madrid Nuevo Norte, the Paseo de la Castellana bike lane or the extension of BIcimad to all the neighborhoods of Madrid.

Finally, the members of the table were asked to “dream” in the Madrid of 2050, which was a city with much more biodiversity, calmer mobility, much more eco-efficient, with closer services that allow a daily city with less of 15 minutes, with non-polluting shared vehicles or public transport and with much more space so that citizens can enjoy the streets without having to flee to the countryside on weekends because the neighborhood environment could offer those same things.
