Madrid World Capital of Construction, Engineering and Architecture (MWCC) has visited the facilities of Madrid Calle 30. Infrastructure is one of the association’s preferred collaborating entities given its benchmark profile for public-private collaboration in Spain.

David García Nuñez, president of MWCC, was accompanied by the CEO of Madrid Calle 30, Rosalía Gonzalo, as well as different technicians from both entities. During the visit, the representatives of the association were able to verify how the infrastructure, created in 2007 and which involved the renovation of seven junctions and the construction of more than fifty kilometers of tunnel, has led to an improvement in the competitiveness of Madrid as a center of activities economic, cultural, educational and leisure.

Likewise, the technicians showed the different tasks of operation, conservation and maintenance of the Calle 30 distributor ring as well as the infrastructures and spaces in its surroundings, such as junctions, bridges, green areas and free areas included within the ring road. Currently, for the management of the conservation and maintenance of the infrastructure, there is an operating staff made up of 280 professionals and more than 80 vehicles of various types, intended for dealing with incidents or signaling lane closures or cleaning.

The control center of Madrid Calle 30, whose function is to supervise and manage incidents that may occur in the infrastructure, was another of the areas visited and that aroused the most interest among the attendees. As the professionals of the M-30 shared, more than 1.5 million vehicles use this route to travel, which implies an annual response to more than 13,000 incidents. Madrid Calle 30 has more than 1,600 cameras, 700 SOS posts, a ring fiber optic network of 60 kilometers multimode and 78 kilometers single mode, 400 communication nodes, 900 fans, 550 variable message panels, 40,000 lights, 120 points of traffic measurement, 8,000 fire detection points, air quality analyzers, in addition to other equipment so that the response is agile and immediate. The M-30 Control Center has become a world reference in terms of traffic management and safety in road tunnels, carrying out more than 200,000 communications a year.
