MWCC presents the report ‘Analysis of Mobility in Madrid in 2024’.

MWCC and DS Ranking have prepared the report ‘Analysis of Mobility in Madrid’ in 2024, a study based on data from the Department of Transport and Sustainable Mobility that offers a detailed x-ray of travel in the city.

The report is a key tool for understanding the mobility habits of the people of Madrid, with the aim of contributing to more efficient and sustainable urban planning. This analysis provides information not only on the number of journeys, but also on the distances travelled, peak traffic hours and the differences between weekdays and weekends.

📌 Volume of journeys: In 2024, Madrid recorded an average of 10.9 million trips per day. Of these, 7.9 million were within the city itself, while 1.5 million were inbound and 1.5 million outbound.

📌 Impact of working days on mobility: It has been observed that journeys are 30% higher on weekdays compared to weekends. Specifically, entries increase by 33% and exits by 40% on weekdays, which means 32% more trips in total compared to Saturdays and Sundays.

📌 Distances travelled: The study shows that each trip covers an average of 13.8 km, although with large differences depending on the type of journey:

Internal journeys: 3 km on average.
Entering the city: 41.4 km.
Leaving Madrid: 42.7 km.
In addition, weekday trips tend to be longer than weekend trips, with 3% more kilometres travelled in total.

The analysis also reflects critical traffic times, differentiating between weekdays and weekends:

 Weekdays:

Entry peak hour: between 7:00 and 8:00, being the period of greatest congestion in the city.
Inbound and outbound: the peak hour is at 8:00, with a slightly lower volume.
Other peak congestion times: 14:00 and 18:00, with peak traffic at 14:00 on Fridays.

Weekends:

Peak traffic hours are 13:00 and 19:00.

MWCC and DS Ranking highlight the importance of this data for urban planning and traffic optimisation in Madrid. Mobility is a key factor in the economic and social development of the city, so knowing the travel patterns allows the design of more efficient and sustainable strategies adapted to the needs of citizens.
