MWCC has participated in the inauguration of CIEC MADRID, the new ‘hub’ of the Circular Economy. The Center for Innovation in Circular Economy (CIEC) of Madrid is a project of the Government Area of Economy, Innovation and Employment of the Madrid City Council. The initiative wants to promote an ecosystem of innovation and experimentation of solutions based on sustainability and circularity in the capital.

The Circular Economy Innovation Center (CIEC) in Madrid has a clear purpose: to promote the transformation of companies from a linear model to a circular model. With this idea, the entity is committed to attracting strategic companies to its circularity ecosystem and to designing collaboration formulas between the private sector and CIEC MADRID.

For its development it has:

  • Companies involved. The business fabric is a key and essential agent to advance in the transition towards a new model through the creation of new circular ecosystems and to generate value and benefits in the companies involved.
  • Conscious citizens. Acquiring sustainable habits as consumers is key to the development of new products and business models, such as servitization or shared use, leading to a reorientation of demand.
  • Public support. Administrations play an essential role in promoting the circular economy by being competent in the management of policies for sustainable development such as resource and waste management, mobility, urban planning, and networks and infrastructures, as well as sustainable public purchasing processes. .
  • Ecosystem preserved. We need solutions to keep the value of products, materials and resources in the economy for as long as possible, to reduce the generation of waste and to take full advantage of those that cannot be avoided.

At CIEC Madrid, a FabLab has been created, which is a manufacturing workshop equipped with machines that are controlled by computers. Its particularity lies in its size and its strong connection with society. The CIEC MADRID FabLab was born to create a community of people of different profiles around Digital Manufacturing Technology and the Circular Economy with the aim of generating knowledge that reverts to society and the Madrid economy in the short and medium-long term. term.

In the words of the president of MWCC, David Garcia Nuñez, “the inauguration of CIEC Madrid is a clear example of the Madrid City Council’s commitment to public-private collaboration as well as the creation of business ecosystems such as the one designed at MWCC”
