The development sector of 4.0 construction solutions for municipalities, from infrastructure, energy, water or resilient transportation with the use of resources, has in Puerto Rico one of the markets with the most opportunities for investment, an interesting market open to innovation proposals under construction and smart-cities of Spanish companies. In fact, the country has the largest investment of federal funds, more than 80 billion dollars for its reconstruction, as confirmed by Chausey Ching, president of the Mechanical Contractors Association of Puerto Rico, (MCA) who has visited Spain last week passed with a delegation of 70 representatives and more than 30 companies from the mechanical construction industry of Puerto Rico in collaboration with Gedeth Network.

A delegation of companies and institutional representatives from Puerto Rico visits Spain

Within the framework of the MCA Convention, several activities have taken place in Spain, such as a meeting on July 27 at the Centro Riojano in Madrid with the participation of John Coronado, Senior Commercial Officer – U.S. Embassy in Madrid, Spain who spoke about the excellent relations and business prospects between Spain and Puerto Rico. During this meeting, Spanish companies such as Ferrovial or FCC together with institutions such as Madrid City Council, Madrid Capital Mundial (MWCC) and ICEX, which has supported the development of the largest adventure park in Europe that will be installed in Cuenca by the company Puerto Rico Toro Verde have been able to learn about the opportunities that Puerto Rico offers.

In addition, the delegation was able to visit Madrid Nuevo Norte where Luis Martín de Ciria, Communications Director of Crea Madrid Nuevo Norte, explained to the delegation the details of the project, one of the largest urban regeneration projects in Europe. They have also been able to see David García Nuñez, president of Madrid World Capital and director of FCC, at the engineering challenge of the ESB project – Santiago Bernabeu Stadium – developed by FCC Construcción. For Chausey Ching, president of the MCA, “the objective of this visit has been to innovate and learn from projects such as Madrid Nueva Centralidad Este, Madrid Nuevo Norte and ESB-Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.”

Puerto Rico, an investment opportunity for Spanish companies

In addition to the country’s strong investment, Puerto Rico is the gateway to both the American and Latin American markets, it has a tax policy with interesting tax exemptions and cutting-edge professional talent not only in traditional sectors but in many others such as aerospace, where according to data from the department of economic development of Puerto Rico the country has gone from 800 to more than 10,000 workers in the aerospace sector in just eight years.

Puerto Rico’s department of economic development has already carried out several missions to identify opportunities in different sectors and convey this message to all Spanish companies, and this visit responds to a reinforcement of these relationships and the promotion of new alliances. “For the past 18 months we have been making an effort in collaboration with the Spanish government and it is bearing fruit. For example, the Puerto Rican company, ToroVerde, is already building an adventure park, with a million-dollar investment, in Castilla-La Mancha.” explains Soraya Morón, Assistant Secretary for Entrepreneurship and Business Development of the Department of Economic Development and Commerce of the Government of Puerto Rico.

For companies that want to take advantage of the opportunities that the country offers, MCA partners are the ideal partners for Spanish companies that want to do business in Puerto Rico and in the region.
